Day 3: imagine this story in your head
Imagine this story in your head.
Let's say your current take-home pay is $2000 a month.
And because you're efficient at work, you often finish the tasks earlier.
When you come home, you start to contemplate how to fill your time.
"Why not do a side project?" You asked yourself.
Out of nowhere, someone offered you to build a relatively simple project.
You know you can build it in 10 hours total, you're familiar with the technology.
Then they offer you the price, "We will pay you $500 for this quick project. Sounds good? We don't want to hire an employee, it's just a quick prototype."
$500 is a typical number for a simple project. You accepted the offer and finished it in a weekend.
"Ah thank you so much! Your work is so good! I'll send you the fee to your PayPal" They seem happy.
You check your PayPal balance:
$477.70 available.
"Oh wow, never thought I could earn this much in a weekend" you told yourself.
If you think about it, $500 is 25% of your salary. And you earned it in a weekend. Okay, you get $477.70 because PayPal took 4.4% from it, but you get the idea.
Don't do freelancing if you don't have time. Because, I admit, freelancing is just another work but with a much higher hourly rate compared to your main job.
But if you have time (ideally 10+ hours a week), I think you're ready to do freelance.
I wrote a book called "Becoming Embedded Freelancer" to help embedded engineers try freelancing on the side.
If you're interested, you can check the link below and get two free preview chapters:
Whenever you're ready, there are 2 ways I can help you:
1. Becoming Embedded Freelancer Book. Learn how to earn more money (even more than your main job) working on freelance projects using a proven path explained from an embedded engineer's point-of-view.
2. Firmware Development Workflow Guide. Upgrade your workflow to achieve efficient development, consistent code quality, robust firmware, and skyrocketed your productivity as an embedded engineer.
